Did Ark Royal lack fire-main redundancy?

Redundancy existed, but inexperienced personnel and poor execution exposed weaknesses that led to much stricter damage-control training.

Ark Royal did possess fire-main redundancy. Rapid Fleet Air Arm expansion, however, diluted experienced personnel across a large and complex carrier crew. The problem lay in using the available systems under damage rather than simply in whether they existed. After the loss, crews were no longer handed a damage-control manual and expected to learn it alone; the Navy trained them directly and rigorously in its use.
