Production cost replaces purchase price

Once purchase prices disappear, the relevant comparison becomes resources and production time against operational value.

Notes

With financial price removed from the transaction, cost becomes resources and production time measured against operational value. Germany's Maus is offered as equipment whose resource and production burden likely failed that test. The Sherman-versus-Panther example asks whether two or three reliable vehicles can be produced for what one individually more powerful machine consumes. The answer may differ for Germany because its crew supply and industrial constraints were not the same as those of the Allies. Lend-Lease let the Allied coalition specialize and procure for combined effectiveness, while Germany, Italy, Japan, and their partners continued to operate fragmented production systems. The comparison concerns force generation and alliance efficiency rather than a simple one-on-one tank contest.
