Is Prince of Wales an unlucky Royal Navy name?

What is the unluckiest name in the Royal Navy?

Prince of Wales is suggested tentatively, with a joking pattern of alternating good and bad luck rather than a firm ranking.

Prince of Wales is suggested tentatively as a Royal Navy name associated with alternating good and bad luck. The recollection is uncertain and does not establish it as the single unluckiest name. The present ship is jokingly expected to inherit the fortunate turn. A claim that a CVA-01 carrier might have received the name complicates that joke, rather than proving a pattern of luck.
