Pre-dreadnought seakeeping, speed, and classification

Rolling at sea and a one-knot speed difference show why a game's labels cannot substitute for historical warship classification.

Notes

Late pre-dreadnoughts could roll heavily and were uncomfortable ships at sea. The Deutschland-class reconstruction receives 19 knots because historical members of the class ranged from about 18.5 to 19.1 knots, while the Lord Nelson reconstruction keeps its historical 18-knot speed. Ultimate Admiral: Dreadnoughts consequently labels the slightly faster German design a battlecruiser. That classification follows the game's rules, while historical classification also depended on role, protection, and armament.
