Chapter · 5:26-6:13

Poland's fleet is trapped by geography

Poland's narrow coast, exposed bases, and restricted routes out of the Baltic leave almost no strategic depth for conventional naval operations.

Notes

Poland's fleet is trapped in a strategic dead end created by geography and limited naval size. Its ships cannot reach the open ocean without passing through the Danish Straits or the German-controlled Kiel Canal. The Danzig Corridor leaves the narrow coast without depth and exposed to attack from more than one direction. Those constraints sharply limit what even sensible procurement can accomplish before war.
