The French Pallas class carried a main battery of 18-pounder guns with additional carronades. HMS Corona was captured at the 1811 Battle of Lissa after only a few years in French service. Many ships of the class entered British hands, including examples completed for other navies. Their capture mattered because the carefully calculated design could be studied in service and feed further development.
