P-4s continued in Asian fleets after World War II. The People's Republic of China acquired large numbers, organized them into torpedo brigades, and used four to sink Tai Ping, the former USS Decker, in 1954. Chinese transfers later supplied Bangladesh, including the surviving example discussed here. A North Vietnamese P-4 may also have been involved in the Gulf of Tonkin incident. Continued service depended on a demanding corrosion-control regime for the alloy hulls.
