Western support for Greece pushed the Ottomans toward Germany

The post-battle aside links Ottoman alignment with Germany to conspicuous British, French, and American sympathy for Greece in 1913.

Notes

The Greco-Ottoman conflict of 1913 helps explain part of the Ottoman turn toward Germany. Britain, France, and the United States made little secret of their support for Greece during the crisis. From the Ottoman perspective, that behavior reduced the credibility of the western maritime powers as neutral partners. German alignment consequently offered an alternative in a diplomatic environment already shaped by naval defeat and great-power favoritism.
