Orders of battle and Russian ship-identification headaches

The order-of-battle comparison shows a heavy Ottoman battle line and a Russian fleet whose ship identities, ratings, and renamed vessels are difficult to reconcile.

Notes

The Ottoman order of battle looks formidable on paper, with a first rate, six second rates, three third rates, heavy frigates, and supporting sloops. The Russian side is harder to describe because some ship ratings and identities remain uncertain. A major English-language reference work cannot settle every career and class question. Repeated renaming can move familiar names between Russian ships of similar classes, making reconstruction harder than a neat fleet list suggests. Orders of battle may conceal unresolved archival problems even when the force totals appear precise.
