Could orbital kinetic weapons be deployed?

Will orbital kinetic weapons ever be placed in orbit?

Hopefully not, but the concept may be simple enough that eventual deployment cannot be dismissed.

The proposed orbital kinetic weapons are often described as rods from God. The first response is a hope that they are never placed in orbit. The basic concept is nevertheless described as comparatively simple to build. That technical accessibility keeps eventual deployment plausible, although the exchange does not assess guidance, launch, or political constraints.
