Older drones can remain useful while newer aircraft enter service. If their control systems still work, they provide a platform for learning handling skills that transfer to newer machines. Early training destroys a substantial number of drones when inexperienced operators collide with obstacles. Gradually replacing older training airframes therefore need not prevent operators from learning the skills required by a more modern fleet.

Why older drones remain useful for operator training
Working control systems let older drones teach transferable skills while absorbing the collisions common in early operator training.
