Official warship loads may differ from combat loads

Published load figures do not always describe what a warship actually carries when it sails into combat.

Notes

Japanese reload stowage illustrates the difference between an official allowance and an operational load. A navy may publish or plan one quantity while crews carry a different amount for a particular mission. The gap can reflect combat expectations, available stowage, and the risks a commander is willing to accept. Nominal ammunition or stores figures are a starting point rather than an automatic description of wartime practice.
