Offensive weapons advertise themselves; defensive demand follows

Mine and missile manufacturers have an incentive to publicize new threats, while interceptor and countermeasure suppliers can rely on that publicity to make much of their market case.

Notes

An imbalance in public information does not prove an absence of defensive technology. Offensive systems need visible claims about reach and lethality to attract buyers; defensive systems gain urgency from those same claims and may reveal less about their own performance. In Europe, publicity around Naval Strike Missile contrasts with the quieter demand it creates for air-defence interceptors.
