Nürnberg's torpedo response exposed peacetime habits

After HMS Salmon struck Nürnberg's bow, slowing to inspect damage left the cruiser vulnerable to another torpedo spread.

Notes

Nürnberg sighted HMS Salmon's first torpedoes and turned hard, but one weapon still struck the bow. The cruiser then reduced speed to 12 knots so the crew could inspect the damage, a peacetime habit carried into combat. Three more torpedo tracks forced Nürnberg to accelerate and turn again, with the weapons exploding in her wake. An ineffective attempt to engage the submarine with the aft main turret further illustrates the gap between available weapons and a useful anti-submarine response.
