Fast destroyers and minelayers for Norway's fjords

A proposed Norwegian defence ship trades heavy long-range guns for speed, dual-purpose fire, mines, and close-range torpedo attacks.

Notes

One alternative to another Norwegian coastal-defence ship is a French-style large destroyer with a different armament. Twin 4-inch dual-purpose mounts would replace the heavier guns, saving weight for additional torpedoes and mines. Long-range gun power matters less in this proposal because the ship would lay mines ahead of an approaching enemy and attack at close range inside a fjord. High speed would allow a small force to move between threatened parts of Norway's long coast. An Abdiel-type minelayer offers a related starting point, with some mine capacity exchanged for more torpedoes.
