Destroyer shortages and vulnerable flying-boat reconnaissance

Destroyer scarcity prevents a sustained coastal patrol while German aircraft catch two British reconnaissance flying boats on the water.

Notes

The Admiralty orders Lord Cork to send a destroyer to Mo and proposes a destroyer division to patrol the coast north of Namsos against German troop movement by sea. That wider patrol cannot be established because too few destroyers are available. Two flying boats sent from Britain to reconnoitre airfields around Bodø are then caught on the water and put out of action by German aircraft. Destroyer shortages and enemy air power frustrate both maritime interdiction and reconnaissance.
