Nidaros as an armored floating fort

A comparison with Eidsvold shows how Nidaros would add heavier guns, newer technology, thick armor, and major torpedo protection to Norway's coastal fleet.

Notes

The ship's 9.2-inch guns could penetrate substantial armor at useful ranges. A 7-inch belt and thick protection around the turrets, barbettes, deck, bulkheads, and conning tower formed a heavily armored core. Nidaros displaced roughly 5,500 tons after British modifications, compared with about 4,200 tons for the Eidsvold class. Both types were slow mobile forts that relied on armor and subdivision, and both carried compatible medium-caliber batteries. Their value still depended on maintenance, coordination, and keeping torpedo-armed destroyers at a distance.
