A Cold War refit for the Neptune-class cruiser

The unbuilt Neptune cruiser is tested against Cold War modernization choices, including radar, missiles, and the limits of an Albany-style conversion.

Question

How might an unbuilt Neptune-class cruiser have been modernized for the Cold War?

Short answer

A limited British-style radar and missile refit is more plausible than an extensive Albany-class reconstruction.

Notes

An American Albany-class transformation is an unlikely model for a British cruiser. A Royal Navy refit would more probably follow the Tiger-class pattern, beginning with updated radar and potentially adding Sea Cat. Neptune's larger hull would offer more room than Tiger for new systems. Two 6-inch turrets might nevertheless be removed to create a helicopter hangar and the spaces that aviation required. National refit practice and internal volume matter as much as the theoretical ability to mount missiles.
