Which closed British naval sites would be most worth reopening?
Short answerGreenwich Naval College is the priority, with selected dockyard facilities also valuable; Greenwich kept naval education close to government and national life.
NotesGreenwich is the first choice for reopening, alongside proper facilities at dockyard locations such as Poole and Rosyth. Proximity to London gave naval education and leadership better access to national government and a place from which to make the Navy's institutional case. A later museum-ship discussion applies the same logic to industrial cities: a preserved Hermes would need a harbour with enough space, and Liverpool could use the ship as a focus for maritime regeneration. Naval infrastructure includes educational, political, and civic functions as well as berths and repair facilities.
