A national drydocks board for mobile repair capacity

Additional floating docks could support surface ships at home or overseas, with commercial access when the Navy does not need them.

Notes

Two floating docks at Faslane would address submarine work, but surface ships also need repair capacity. Additional docks could move to where support was required, including Plymouth, Gibraltar, Singapore or the Falklands. A proposed national drydocks board would operate that capacity and give the Royal Navy first use. Civilian yards could use spare capacity when it was available, allowing the same infrastructure to support commercial work.
