How Narvik losses reshaped the German destroyer force

Heavy losses among earlier destroyer types explain the mix of surviving and newly built ships available for Barents Sea.

Notes

Five of the six Type 1936 destroyers had been lost at Narvik, leaving little of that group available for later operations. The losses also included four Type 1934A ships and one of the four Type 1934 ships. The surviving force consequently combined earlier designs with Type 1936A destroyers. Z29 and Z30 belonged to the original Type 1936A production group, while Z31 belonged to the mobilization variant.
