Nakhimov's long absence and decade of modernization

The recalled Nakhimov chronology places a ten-year modernization inside a much longer absence from operational service.

Notes

Nakhimov's chronology gives a concrete example of how long a major warship can remain unavailable. The dates recalled here are entry into service in 1988, mothballing in 1999, modernization beginning in 2015, and sea trials in 2025. Those dates amount to about eleven years of initial service followed by a much longer absence, including ten years of modernization. The comparison with Russia's carrier difficulties also includes the judgment that Soviet and Russian nuclear assets have received closer maintenance attention than non-nuclear ships.
