Chapter ยท 6:59-9:33

Montecuccoli machinery, armament, aircraft, and sensors

The class combines 37-knot machinery, eight six-inch guns, layered light AA, torpedoes, reconnaissance aircraft, and late-war radar fittings.

Notes

The class has a 7,500-ton standard displacement, geared turbines, six boilers, two shafts, 106,000 horsepower, and an intended 37-knot speed. Eight six-inch guns sit alongside a mixed battery of 100 mm, 37 mm, and 13.2 mm weapons, while four torpedo tubes make the class relatively light on torpedoes. The catapult arrangement nominally supports two or perhaps three aircraft, but the rail and crane geometry makes the third position debatable. GUFO radar and Metox warning equipment arrived only in 1943, when the Royal Navy and U.S. Navy had already advanced through several radar generations.
