Question

Is the improved Mogami design more capable than the Royal Navy's Type 26 frigate?

Short answer

It is not a direct comparison; Mogami fills a smaller escort role closer to Type 31 than Type 26.

Notes

The Mogami-class frigate is roughly half the displacement of Type 26 and was designed for a different requirement. It is a small frigate or destroyer escort suited to convoy protection and presence missions. Type 26 is a larger, high-end anti-submarine combatant with different endurance and capability expectations. Comparing Mogami with Type 31 produces a more useful role-based comparison.
