Did the Minotaur class simply look like another Crown Colony cruiser?
Short answerThe family resemblance was strong, but the gun arrangement, unit machinery, removal of aircraft facilities, and improved habitability made it a meaningful development.
NotesThe hull still resembles the Crown Colony and Town lineage, but its internal and topside arrangements are meaningfully different. Replacing X turret with four-inch antiaircraft mountings created a powerful broadside and useful fire astern. More separated unit machinery improved survivability, while eliminating hangars, aviation fuel, and aircraft support equipment reduced topweight. Those changes also made the accommodation less cramped than on the Crown Colony class.
