Milne's choice: concentration or a split force

The counterfactual turns on whether Milne keeps his capital ships together or gives Beatty Lion alongside Troubridge's armoured cruisers.

Notes

Keeping the force concentrated retains maximum local strength but leaves operational control vulnerable to competing messages from London. The alternative has Milne cover another route while Beatty takes Lion with Troubridge's four armoured cruisers and destroyers. Troubridge's 9.2-inch guns were more likely to disable than quickly sink Goeben, and his slower ships could not force the range. They nevertheless become a useful supporting force if Lion's speed compels the German ship to fight.
