Why Britain would fold carrier delivery into a future Merlin replacement

Rather than buy V-22s for carrier delivery, the Royal Navy would probably wait for a common medium helicopter successor to Merlin.

Question

Would new British LHDs make the V-22 Osprey a likely carrier-onboard-delivery aircraft?

Short answer

Probably not; Britain would more likely give carrier delivery and several other roles to the eventual Merlin replacement family.

Notes

Britain is unlikely to introduce the V-22 as a separate carrier-onboard-delivery type. The fleet had recently invested in Wildcat and was unlikely to add another helicopter family before Merlin replacement became necessary. That future medium aircraft could cover carrier delivery in its commando form and possibly absorb anti-submarine and airborne-warning duties in other variants. Fleet commonality can matter more than acquiring an attractive specialist aircraft.
