A navy with StanFlex modules already in service could buy a more capable hull without repurchasing its entire weapons fit. Alternatively, it could change the capability of existing ships by buying different modules. Hull purchases and weapons purchases would become partly independent within the proposed MEKO-StanFlex system. The choice would depend on whether the navy needed another ship, a different payload, or both.

Common modules separate ship purchases from weapon purchases
An existing module inventory could equip a new hull, while new modules could change the capability of ships already in service.
