Medea struck torpedo boat TB 64 while leaving the basin at Chatham Dockyard. The impact badly damaged TB 64's bow and holed Medea, and the torpedo boat then proceeded to Sheerness for repairs. Medea later recommissioned in 1911 and entered mine-training service in 1913. Her career shows how the Navy reused an aging protected cruiser for specialist work after repair.
