Britain's MATCH concept used a helicopter controlled by the attacking ship to carry the anti-submarine weapon outward. The Anglo-Australian Ikara and French Malafon used ship-controlled missiles. Radar control offered the possibility of handing the weapon to a second ship better placed to track the submarine. A later Franco-Italian follow-up based on an anti-ship cruise missile had considerably greater range, although only Italy adopted it.
