Mass production left few original survivors

Thousands of DB-3s and Il-4s served across Soviet bomber units, yet surviving museum aircraft are largely reconstructions from recovered parts.

Notes

Production totals show how widely the DB-3 family spread through Soviet bomber forces. The stated figures are 1,528 DB-3s and a claimed total of 5,256 Il-4s, with significant heavy-bomber formations often operating one or both types. That ubiquity did not translate into preservation once the aircraft ceased to be modern equipment. No original DB-3 survives, and the Il-4 examples seen today are largely rebuilds assembled from recovered components.
