The Royal Navy explored a fast successor to the Landing Craft Assault, comparable in concept to the modern rigid raider. The idea appeared useful, but the established LCA was already being produced in very large numbers. Only a small number of the newer craft followed, and they found roles in rivers and harbours instead of replacing the standard assault boat. Existing production scale preserved an adequate design even when a promising alternative was available.

When LCA mass production crowded out a successor
A promising fast successor to the LCA remained a small program because changing course made little sense once the established assault craft was already in mass production.
