Marine squadrons and the early transition to carrier jets

A Marine squadron's move from Corsairs through Panthers to FJ2 Furys sits within the Navy's wider introduction to carrier jets.

Notes

A Marine squadron returning from Korea changed aircraft during the following year. Its Corsairs gave way to Panthers before the North American FJ2 Fury arrived. The FJ2 is described as essentially a navalized F-86. The earlier straight-wing FJ1 had served only briefly and in small numbers. Alongside the FH1 Phantom, its principal purpose was to introduce the Navy to jet operations from carriers. Following this transition requires attention to changing unit designations as well as aircraft names.
