At Malta Dockyard, Dalrymple-Hamilton reused the administrative experience gained with the Nore Reserve Flotilla. The yard refitted ships for Far Eastern service, cleared wartime damage, and assessed wrecks for salvage or removal. Its work also supported contingency planning for the possibility that wartime tension with the Soviet Union might continue into another conflict. Dockyard command was therefore an operational and logistical appointment rather than a quiet post away from the fleet.
