Judging the Mogador class by wartime opportunity

A ship's apparently quiet wartime record must be judged against the conflicts it had a chance to fight.

Question

Did the Mogador-class large destroyers do nothing worthwhile in the Second World War?

Short answer

That is too cynical: the war denied them many of the opportunities their design and prewar plans anticipated.

Notes

The Mogador class should not be dismissed simply because it did not achieve a famous combat record. Warship value also includes patrols and assigned duties, rather than only celebrated surface victories. Prewar planners expected more frequent fleet clashes in both world wars than actually occurred. French defeat removed the class's intended opportunity to face Italy early, while Italian fuel shortages later reduced surface activity still further. Its record therefore reflects strategic conditions as well as the qualities of the ships and crews.
