About two hundred L.3 flying boats were built, and the Regia Marina employed them for bombing, reconnaissance, patrol, escort, brief fighter work, and operations behind Austrian lines. Continued training use into 1924 shows that the type remained useful during an era of rapid aircraft turnover. Europa could arrive with aircraft and supplies, receive additional machines by air, then pack up or move once the operational area or threat changed. Surplus aircraft could fly home while the embarked group returned to the hangars, letting the ship redeploy or enter reserve. The aircraft's flexibility and the base's mobility worked as one system rather than as separate capabilities.
