Chapter · 2:02:07-2:10:37

A long-range King George V and carrier fleet

The 10,000-mile requirement favors narrower, more efficient battleships and carriers, possibly with nine 15-inch guns and high-pressure machinery.

Notes

A Sydney-oriented King George V design must sustain useful speed over a much longer route rather than merely possess long endurance at ten knots. A longer, narrower hull with triple turrets could retain the 15-inch caliber if Britain continued producing those weapons for coastal defense. High-pressure machinery could produce a faster and more efficient battleship, while smaller dual-purpose guns might save weight and beam. The same range logic affects carriers and every escort class, just as later Royal Navy designs were shaped by the Falklands distance.
