The Littoral Combat Ship concept met hull-life limits

The Littoral Combat Ship had a potentially useful shallow-water mission, but speed-driven design choices produced hull stress and service-life problems.

Notes

A ship suited to constrained littoral waters still meets a useful operational need. In this critique, concentrating on very high speed undermined the LCS concept through hull stress, strain, and service-life problems. Earlier ships are described as more affected, with some issues corrected in later examples. The failure is therefore placed in the way the concept was implemented, while the shallow-water mission remains useful.
