The Royal Navy still needs carriers on dispersed stations such as the South Atlantic without a wartime emergency programme. A cruiser carrier developed from the Unicorn line could meet that requirement. More time for construction would allow a different ship from the historical light fleet carriers built as quickly and simply as possible. American adoption of the same approach could allow aviation facilities to come off cruisers, removing an element regarded here as a danger.

Light carriers bring aviation to distant cruiser stations
Cruiser-carrier descendants of HMS Unicorn could provide aviation and presence on distant stations without forcing every cruiser to operate its own aircraft.
