Lexington, Amagi, and G3 design roles

Contemporary American, Japanese, and British designs occupy different points on the battlecruiser-fast-battleship spectrum.

Notes

The lightly protected Lexington is characterized as the generation's scouting and commerce-oriented battle cruiser. Amagi and G3 sit farther toward combat-capable battlecruisers, with greater ability to fight powerful contemporaries. The Kii and Number 13 designs move farther toward fast battleships. Comparing ships designed within the same technological generation makes the spectrum clearer than comparing a G3 with much older dreadnoughts.
