Lewis Nixon's six-triple battleship proposal

A 1907 American proposal for a 30,000-ton battleship with six triple turrets shows how far contemporary all-forward-firepower ideas could reach.

Notes

A viewer comment recalls American newspaper concern in 1907 that Britain might build a 30,000-ton, 23-knot super-battleship. Naval architect Lewis Nixon is said to have answered that climate with a concept carrying six triple turrets. The proposed arrangement would put twelve guns into the forward-firing arc, an extreme expression of the same preference discussed earlier in the video. Another commenter favours keeping four triple turrets and investing the saved displacement in speed, an approach reflected in the Queen Elizabeth alternative already shown.
