A Spanish jet-engine project interrupted by civil war

A recalled account follows Leret's interrupted engine project and his wife's preservation and transfer of the plans.

Notes

Clarke recalls the story of Virgilio Leret, a Spanish engineer authorized to develop a jet-engine project under the Republic. In that recollection, Leret defended his seaplane base against Francoist forces and was executed after capture. His wife concealed his plans during imprisonment and later passed them to the British embassy. The account connects that decision with her husband's execution and places the transfer before the Second World War. His service role is recalled uncertainly, and the captions do not render his name clearly.
