Léopard's British rearmament and uncertain submarine claim

British weapons strengthened Léopard for Atlantic escort work, but a translated account leaves uncertainty over a claimed submarine sinking.

Notes

British modifications replaced two of Léopard's after 13.2 mm mounts with a 4-inch gun between the funnels. The forward machine-gun mounts moved higher on the superstructure and two 2-pounder pom-poms were added. She then joined Western Approaches convoy escort duty and rescued 39 survivors from a cargo vessel. An archived account of her commander's service also credited five attacks on a German submarine and a probable sinking. Its translated wording calls these grenade attacks, probably meaning depth-charge attacks. The original French version could not be checked through the archive, so both the translation problem and the uncertainty of the sinking claim remain.
