The Swedish landing in southwest Finland aimed to recover Åbo with naval support. Its force included 600 guards, 1,770 men from the Uppland brigade, small cavalry and rifle detachments, Finnish peasants, and six guns. The nearby Russian force numbered about 3,600. Adding Moore's expedition could have raised the landing force to roughly 12,000, giving it a very different numerical position. Gustav instead kept professional Swedish units available for operations against Norway while expecting less capable troops to defend Finland. The argument for releasing those units also depended on Denmark's loss of its navy and the Royal Navy squadron accompanying Moore.

Lemo's limited landing force and the troops held back
The Lemo landing relied on a limited force while trained Swedish troops and Britain's 10,000-man expedition remained unavailable.
