The Legend-cutter successor inherits the production problem

The proposed Legend-class-derived frigate offers a simpler hull, but its cold production line and limited combat depth constrain the promise of rapid mass production.

Notes

The February 2026 assessment treats the Legend-derived frigate as a programme that must restart production and parts supply. It points to Calhoun's earlier completion and the cancellation of Freeman when questioning descriptions of a hot production line. The cutter is regarded as a capable national security ship, but the proposed frigate's limited missile and gun capacity would require close protection in high-threat operations. It could take lower-threat duties away from Burkes. Adding US Navy weapons and systems would increase the complexity of the cutter baseline at the same time that production was expected to accelerate.
