A later war strengthens British ASW

Delaying war would give Germany more time to build U-boats, but it would also let Britain and the Commonwealth field more escorts and aircraft carriers from a stronger maritime base.

Notes

A later war would not automatically improve Germany's submarine position. Germany entered the conflict earlier than planners expected and would have needed a much larger prewar U-boat stock to overwhelm British defenses quickly. A delay to 1942 would also have put more British carriers, sloops, Hunt-class destroyers, and Flower-class corvettes into service. Commonwealth naval expansion and Britain's larger maritime industry would add to that response. The counterfactual has to advance both sides' preparations together.
