For Britain, a suggested alternative was a much larger T-class submarine. A stronger hull, greater diving depth and longer range could let it carry out the intended cruiser-submarine role with enough torpedoes. A deck gun could remain, as on existing T-class boats, without becoming the reason for the design. The proposal retained an independent ocean-going raider while making torpedoes its main means of attack.
