Heavy industry becomes a constituency for maritime strategy

Korean industrial firms support naval investment both as suppliers and as businesses whose global trade routes need protection.

Notes

South Korea's heavy industry supplies the navy and depends on the sea routes that the fleet protects. That combination recalls the political constituency around Britain's Navy League era. Defence contracts give major firms a direct interest in naval spending, while disruption at sea would also threaten their manufacturing and export businesses. Their support therefore reaches beyond contractor lobbying. As alliances become more openly transactional, this domestic constituency strengthens the case that sea-power investment serves national economic interests.
