Hans Wachtmeister brought thirty Swedish ships, including twenty-one ships of the line, against forty-seven Danish-Norwegian ships, twenty-seven of them ships of the line. The action south of Copenhagen produced groundings and the loss of an exploding Danish ship without a clear tactical decision. Two Swedish ships grounded and were scuttled the next day, although their crews and important equipment were recovered. Sweden then destroyed the Dutch-Danish convoy intended to carry a Russian invasion force to Danzig. Stopping that troop movement made the operation a Swedish strategic success despite its costly fleet action.
