One shipyard limited Kirov-class fleet numbers

A single capable yard made it difficult to build enough Kirov-class ships before the earliest units became uneconomic to retain.

Notes

Only one Russian yard could build the Kirov-class ships discussed in the chat. That bottleneck prevented the class from reaching useful numbers quickly. By the time a fifth ship entered service, the first two might be old enough to retire on economic grounds. The aside is a compact example of industrial throughput and service life working against fleet growth.
